Can ChatGPT Reply to Your Zillow Leads On Its Own? What Scheduled Tasks Can and Can't Do
Almost. Since Aug 25, ChatGPT Work can run a task when a new Gmail message arrives, filtered by sender or subject, and ChatGPT can draft and send Gmail. But sending may stop for your approval, unattended tasks can pause, and there's no official way for it to text a lead from your phone. It helps; it won't run your follow-up.
What ChatGPT can do now
Four updates this summer put the pieces of a lead responder inside ChatGPT.
- June 8: ChatGPT can draft and send email through a connected Gmail or Outlook account.
- July 9: ChatGPT Work launched, an agent for longer tasks across your apps and files.
- Aug 25: scheduled tasks in ChatGPT Work can respond when a new Gmail message arrives.
- Aug 28: you can connect more than one Google account for Gmail, Calendar and Contacts.
What a lead task looks like
You can tell ChatGPT Work to watch for new Gmail messages from a lead source and act when one lands.
A Gmail trigger can filter by sender or subject, so you could point it at the address your portal leads come from and ask it to draft a reply. Together, your triggered tasks can run up to 30 times an hour and 720 times a day.
How many tasks you can keep active depends on your plan: 3 on Free and Go, 5 on Plus, 10 on Business, and 15 on Pro and Enterprise. Free and Go can't use Gmail triggers at all.
Where it stops
The gaps are the parts of lead follow-up that happen outside Gmail and after the first reply.
- Approval: an action that sends a message may require approval, and the task pauses until you review it.
- Pauses: OpenAI says unattended tasks may pause on their own after a period of inactivity.
- Texting: there's no official way for it to text a lead from your phone. The Messages plugin works only on a Mac, and asks your approval by default.
- Calendar: OpenAI's Google Calendar plugin looks up events and availability. Whether it can create events wasn't confirmed.
- Your business: it doesn't come knowing your clients, lenders or deal dates. You set that up yourself.

How to set it up safely
If you try it, set it up so a mistake costs you a draft, not a client.
- 01Use a Business plan, or turn off model training on a personal plan.
- 02Filter the trigger tightly by sender so it only fires on real leads.
- 03Keep approval on and read every draft before it goes.
- 04Write your real showing windows into the instructions and keep them current.
- 05Check on it daily. A paused task answers nobody.
The catch with approval
A task that waits for your approval is only as fast as you are.
That is the right trade for safety, and it is also why a draft sitting in ChatGPT at 7 p.m. doesn't help if you don't see it until morning. What matters is how the approval reaches you: in an app you have to open, or in a text you already read.
