Why people are looking for an Instinct alternative

Instinct is in an invite-only beta, it has told users it is at full capacity, and some users said it stopped replying mid-task on Sept 21 and 22.

The sign-up screen says Instinct is in invite-only beta, is at capacity, and takes US phone numbers only. Current users can invite others; the app shows five invites per user.

The Information reported that Instinct told users it is at full capacity and responses may be slower.

Then came the outage. TheStreet reported users saying it went quiet mid-task, with missed reminders and unsent emails.

Instinct does not run a public status page. None of that makes it a bad product.

It connects to Gmail, Google Calendar and Outlook, can browse and fill out forms, and makes calls to US businesses in beta. It launched Sept 8 and reached Canada on Sept 18.

The trade-offs: it trains on your conversations unless you switch that off, and Amazon has blocked it from shopping on Amazon.com.

Closest for texting: Poke

Poke is the pick if what you liked about Instinct was texting an assistant like a person.

Poke works in Apple Messages, WhatsApp and Telegram, and it can search, draft and send Gmail. In June, Apple approved it as the first AI agent on its Messages for Business platform.

Cognition bought its maker in July and says Poke users can keep using it just as before. Whether it can text your clients, rather than you, is not stated.

If you already pay for ChatGPT or Google

ChatGPT Work and Gemini Spark come with plans many agents already have, so try them before paying for anything new.

ChatGPT Work, launched July 9, can run a scheduled task when a new Gmail message arrives on Plus, Pro and business plans. Sending may stop and wait for your approval.

On a Mac, its Messages plugin can send texts, asking your approval first by default.

Gemini Spark is Google's 24/7 agent for AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. It connects to Gmail, Calendar and Drive, runs in Google's cloud so your laptop can be closed, and asks before sending email or spending money.

For tinkerers: OpenClaw and Grok Bot

OpenClaw is free, open-source software you run on your own computer, and Grok Bot is xAI's always-on agent that comes with a SuperGrok or Cursor plan.

OpenClaw can reuse a ChatGPT or Claude sign-in and answer you in iMessage. Its own docs say sandboxing is off by default and prompt injection is not solved, so set it up carefully.

Grok Bot, launched in beta Aug 11, gives each agent its own computer, signs into your tools and comes back when it needs approval.
