How to Connect Follow Up Boss to ChatGPT or Claude: What Works Now and What It Can't Do

There's no official Follow Up Boss connector for ChatGPT or Claude yet. You can still connect them through third-party MCP servers like Follow Up Ace, Zapier or Composio, then ask about your leads in plain English. Two catches most guides skip: the connection can't send a text, and a Follow Up Boss API key carries your login's full access.

The short answer

As of September 25, 2026, Follow Up Boss doesn't offer its own connector for ChatGPT or Claude, so every option is built by someone else.

We checked Follow Up Boss's website, help center, API docs and integrations marketplace. The only ChatGPT and Claude connection on the marketplace is Ace AI, a partner app from Follow Up Ace.

Follow Up Boss's own AI features, like call summaries and suggested tasks, work inside Follow Up Boss.

You may have seen a June headline: "Follow Up Boss Becomes First Real Estate CRM with Native Claude Integration." Follow Up Ace wrote that post.

It built the connector, and the connector needs an Ace Pro seat.

What MCP is, in one line

MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is the open standard that lets ChatGPT and Claude connect to outside apps like your CRM.

Its own docs compare it to "a USB-C port for AI applications." Someone publishes an MCP server for an app.

You paste that server's link into ChatGPT or Claude and sign in. Then the assistant can read or change data in that app when you ask.

Your options for Follow Up Boss

Four kinds of third-party connection work today, and they differ most in price and in how technical the setup is.

How to connect it to Claude

Any Claude plan can use a custom connector, and on the Free plan you can add one.

01Pick a connector from the table above and copy its MCP link.
02In Claude on the web or desktop, go to Customize, then Connectors, click the plus sign, and choose Add custom connector.
03Paste the link and sign in when asked.
04Start with a small question, like how many new leads came in this week, to check it's working.
05On Team and Enterprise plans, only an owner can add a custom connector. Ask your owner to add it, then connect to it from your own settings.
06Adding a connector from the phone is still in beta, but once it's added, it works in the Claude phone app too.

How to connect it to ChatGPT

ChatGPT needs Developer mode for a custom connection, and OpenAI's own pages disagree on which plans get full access.

OpenAI's help center says full MCP, including write actions, is only for Business, Enterprise and Edu, and that Pro users get read-only access. OpenAI's developer docs list Plus and Pro as well.

Free and Go aren't listed. Test it on your own account before you count on it.

01On the ChatGPT website, open Settings and find Developer mode. OpenAI lists it under Security and login in one place, and under Apps, then Advanced settings, in another.
02On a Business account, only an admin can turn it on and add the connection.
03Go to ChatGPT Plugins, click the plus button, and paste the MCP link.
04Use the website. OpenAI says custom MCP apps are web only.
05Keep confirmations on. Write actions ask for your OK by default, and OpenAI itself calls Developer mode "powerful but dangerous."
06Skip old guides built on custom GPTs. OpenAI plans to retire custom GPTs and move them to plugins.

What you can ask it to do

Once connected, you can ask about your leads in plain English and have it add notes or tasks, within what your connector allows.

Look up a lead and summarize their history before you call.
Pull lists, like this week's new leads by source or stage.
Add a note, create a task or apply an action plan. Zapier's Follow Up Boss actions include these.
Draft a follow-up email or text that you then send yourself.

What it can't do

The two limits that matter most: it can't send a real text through Follow Up Boss, and it can't react when something happens in Follow Up Boss.

No texting. Follow Up Boss's API docs say "Text messages created through the API are recorded as logs only." No actual text is sent.
No new-lead trigger. Neither app can react to something happening inside Follow Up Boss. Claude's scheduled tasks run on a timer, on paid plans. ChatGPT Work, on Plus and up, can react to a new Gmail, Slack or GitHub message, but not to a Follow Up Boss event.
Real changes. A wrong note or a moved stage is a real change in your CRM, so read each change before you approve it.

Can ChatGPT answer leads from Gmail?

The API key risk

Some connectors ask for your Follow Up Boss API key, and that key has the same power as your login.

Follow Up Boss's help center says API keys "give access to all information in your FUB account." Its developer docs add detail: an agent's key sees only that agent's contacts, and a broker's key sees everyone.

By default, anyone on the account can create a key, under Admin, then API.

Both AI companies warn about hidden instructions, called prompt injection. Anthropic warns that "Malicious MCP servers may include hidden instructions that try to make Claude perform unintended actions."

Its directory also notes that "verification is not a security audit."

Tips to connect it safely

A few choices up front decide how much a mistake or a bad connector can reach.

01Choose a connector that uses Follow Up Boss sign-in over one that asks you to paste an API key.
02If you must use a key, use your own agent key, not the broker's.
03Only connect servers from companies you trust, and check who actually built it.
04Keep write confirmations on, and read each change before you approve it.
05On a personal ChatGPT plan, turn off Improve the model for everyone if you don't want connected data used for training.
06In Claude, Anthropic says it doesn't train on raw data pulled through connectors, but what ends up in your chat can be used if you've allowed training. Check the training setting in Claude's privacy settings.
07Ask your broker before connecting a team account.

Other real estate tools with MCP

A few real estate systems now publish their own MCP servers, but most are early, limited or waitlisted.

The Zillow, Redfin and Realtor.com apps in ChatGPT are home search for buyers. They don't connect to your CRM.

Lofty says agents who just want AI working for them don't need its MCP server; it's built for brokerages with tech staff.

The bottom line

Connecting Follow Up Boss to Claude or ChatGPT is worth it for answers about your book, not for running your follow-up.

It's good at questions, summaries and small updates you ask for. It can't text, it can't react to new leads in Follow Up Boss, and the setup puts real access in a third party's hands.

Start read-only, pick a connector you trust, and keep confirmations on.
